... it's true, i am back at last - and starting with this post - will be writing at least 3 or 4 times a week! Yay!

“...it all starts with turtles... or, 4 ½ years of Logic in the making.”

It starts at Chinese New Years, Chinatown Los Angeles...end of January... Nine of us all together go to the parade, play with fire works, make fun of the new Mayor Antonio 'If there's a camera in sight I am there' Villaraigosa (after all, ex-Mayor Jimmy Hahn comes from San Pedro ya know...); and get in a fight with snooty people across the street; then on the way back to the car my sister says "Lets get Ashley a turtle!" (Apparently since her daughter Alice has a menagerie we must now also build a zoo here in San Pedro)... Mom frowns and agrees.... Hence, we get two. "Well, they do so much better in pairs ya know..."

Back home, we start with a miniscule turtle tank for two...... and it grows from there.

We decide we both want a new tank for fish again. I had a 150 gallon one way back in the day, and Rina got one during Asher’s 9 month 'sleepover' to help her relax..... so we find a 30 gallon tank in the recycler, comes with fish (of which we subsequently exchange all but two for our Africans, and if you look close in the image below - next to the heater - is the ONLY fish she named out of all of them... a Neon Tetra called Ballerina - which "disappeared" about three weeks after we got the Africans) and all the fixins' and Rina shrewdly bargains the extra 10 gallon tank and cover out of the guy's garage as part of the whole deal.

Now the turtles have room to expand and grow, we add a plecostamus to keep algae down, and she names them "Amanda and Julie" (irregardless that they are both boy turtles) based on the recent addition of her twin little sisters via her dads new romance... at least they weren't named Sam.

Another story another time for this...

Forward a couple weeks, and one turtle (eerily similar to its namesake) is not eating, and subsequently dies on us (but not the namesake at least)........ So - we add Goldfish to her tank - can't kill those, right? Pleco dies next during a water change, but the goldfish... when they came home, were dropped in their bag to acclimate... come back a couple minutes later and the bag is sitting outside the tank on the floor... Reason being? "The turtle will EAT them" she cries emphatically... and a small fight ensues as to what and what not the turtle with it’s oh so small mouth can actually fit inside it to eat or swallow...

all this because we had subsequently traded the fish that came with the big tank and started our collection of African Cichlids... which we explained will eat other fish in the tank if we get anything smaller. She crosses this information with the turtle eating potential gold fish and wants nothing added to her tank then... but we convinced her otherwise.

Now the Africans started out on just flake food to keep them non-aggressive and to allow them to grow to the size of the surroundings...

Three months later and we are current - the Africans are now on a diet of flakes and live guppies which constitutes about 60 of them every three days or so... we have added a few small guppies to Ashley's goldfish and turtle to try to do some breeding of our own food supply and yesterday we come down to the following conversation:

Food Chain Basics 101:

We needed to go get guppies and food for both tanks, so a trip after school was headed to the fish store. On the way, Ashley decided we needed to put all the guppies in her tank and not feed them anymore to the Africans... we explain that her tank isn't big enough to hold 60 additional, although very small guppies to her now crowded habitat and that in simple terms "this is just the laws of natural progression - big fish eat little fish which of course eat littler fish" and a simple glossing over of the mechanics of the food chain.

Here the aforementioned 4 and a half years of Logic enters the picture...

"I don’t want the fish to eat the small ones anymore."

"Well, they need them now since we have them on this diet", I answered and then suggested that "as People we eat hamburgers and steaks which come from cows."

Mom interjects that "Chickens come from where? “and gets back

"from eggs."

Mom again... "We eat chickens and eggs, and we eat hamburgers, right?"

Ashley comes back with:

"Hamburgers come from Burger King.
And milk comes from cows. "

Mom starts with "Where do thick, juicy steaks..." (her 4 and a half aged favorite way to describe them anyway) and I mutter under my breath she is gonna say the grocery store... and before I can finish, that is exactly what rolls off her tongue glibly ...understand that this is no regular 4 and a half year old but actually a very sarcastic small person merely pretending to be a child for hers' and our amusement who just so happens to fit in the booster chair in the back seat and can carry a conversation better than most adults I know.
So I try again to explain the food chain, momentarily stunned still by the Burger King comment and now trying to rid that god forsaken cartoon come to life in the commercials that scares me in my sleep out of my minds eye to keep focused on this conversation...
"Steaks and Hamburger come from cows, as well as milk... "
but I am cut short again by the commanding voice in the rear stating

"I am done playing THIS game, are we there yet?"

... i just feel like it should be a 'vocation' to go on vacation always!

- sunrise over the financial district skyline -

we rolled into the City around 5:45

after driving all night from Los Angeles,

and since check in for our room wasn't until 2 pm

- drove out to the Marine Stadium

to start the day with a walk out on the curving pier

into the harbor where i shot this image of the City awakening at 6 am,

and feel it captures the moment exactly!

this location is just across the street from Ghiradelli Square which was the next stop

- to go to Boursins' for croissants and coffee

- a tradition of sorts to start a day in San Francisco as it were.

imagine our surprise to find them gone...

they have recently moved to a much larger facility now at Pier 39

where they have a ginormous building housing the bakery, a bistro, gift shop and cafe all rolled into one big fantasy of a shopping experience,

along with a nice patio with heaters and a fireplace outside

facing the crab shoppes, but alas

- it being Thanksgiving Day afterall - were not slated to open till 10:00 am.

- the harbour at Pier 39 -

so, off to a drive over the bridge and back

- anything to waste time and avoid napping in the car

till check in anyway hehehe!;

and then a leisurely tour of Cow Hollow till we could

go get a proper cup of coffee and a snack.

.... so, i had my doctor review monday for my case, and after three hours there - i still don't know where i stand on my one good leg, or if i am gonna have that one good leg to stand on...

but - my story of the 3 hours there more than makes up for the still lacking information (well - more like 4 and a half hours including the before’s and after’s also!)

my appointment was at ten, the office is only an 8 minute drive down the freeway that flies as a crow would between my home and the doctor office, but nary a crow in sight come monday morning... see - the freeway is undergoing widening for inclusion of new "HOV" lanes (understandable since this 'freeway' is all of 11 miles across town as a jumper between two more MAJOR arteries in an already much too clogged orange county given over to asphalt and rubber), but i am already off course here...

so i know the freeway is gonna be an issue, and i know that the exchange i need to exit is closed while they build the new flyover at its crossing, and by knowing all this in advance - i add like twenty minutes surface time to my ride. i exit my humble abode at 9:10, already having been up and out of it once that morning at 5:45 to take my sister to work in order to use her car (and her job being off one of the "two more MAJOR arteries" not subject to delays save for rush hour), pull up to turn right out of my street and see a long line of traffic already slowing.

now i'm thinking - these people are ALL late for work - it's after 9 am already, but less than 100 feet around the corner on my right i see the slowing traffic doing the same crazy dance honey bee's do when they want to tell others where the new juice is at - that kinda lazy figure eight motion - and between gaps in the cars i see why... a two car head on in the middle of the street where there really is no reason to have one, but between the seventeen people running around with their cell phones all trying to call 911 or their mothers to relay the accident - there in the middle of the street is a kid in jeans and a tee shirt just sprawled out like he was trying to horizontally/prone "climb" the street as if it were a vertical surface instead.

i observe no blood - no extended bits of bone thru ragged skin, nothing really to show serious injury anyway, and i also observe that car one closest to me has fully deployed airbags...

aha! 1+1=5!

i assume that the 'climber' is said driver of car one and has been knocked into some sort of “clint eastwood/eiger sanction” mindset by the impact of the airbags and fell to the ground upon a rapid exit from his now useless car, while driver number two is on his cell calling his mother to call his lawyer to whatever - his car still operable (well of course it was - it was twice the size of car one!) so i weave my way into and thru all of this, cursing under my breath as to why i don't really drive anymore in orange county for just this reason: airbags+cellphones+idiots in a hurry to get nowhere later and continue on my way.

down the boulevard, then up and over the "new" crossover bypass where i should have been driving on twenty minutes before if the freeway was indeed "actually" free... and proceed to make a right to head to the building where this fancy state approved review doctor has his office. up ahead: yellow flashing lights - lots and lots of them. pointing "left". and road cones. and barriers. WTF!... the "governator' isn't due in town till tomorrow for election day (orange county+citizens=REPUBLICAN last bastion stronghold), but it is just more road work - the road being the one of course i need to turn on to get to the damned building of said state doctor - now rapidly approaching t-minus ten...

down around the block, back up and across, into the back way thru the shortcut i just invented – yeah, what’s a 14 inch drop off a curb do to a 1994 cougar anyway?

ahhh, finally,

parked.

now? really weird deja vu time... i have been here before somehow, no - this doctor doesn’t hold court in my personal medical rolodex of a cell phone that holds more doctors than friends and family on my international share plan, ... F*CK! ... this building holds the office of my ex-lawyer who fumbled my case for the first year!

oh my, this does not bode well now.......

into the elevator, push floor four - one below the famed lawyers office - and exit into a maze like i have never seen in an office tower and i live in the mother of most office towers concentrated on the west coast - even spent a few years in the line of work designing them!

at last suite 400 comes into view - last door possible of course with a name plaque anyway announcing it as such - and sign in to begin. 7 pages of forms to fill out - "please sign here. and here. and here. oh, and twice here please if you will and we can start on them while you complete “Moby Dick” over there. have a seat - we will be right with you."

off to an office to give a history "you remember dates and instances well?" yep! i do.

40 minutes later, off to another office, “please take off all your clothes except undies and put on this luxurious mass marketed for its beneficial fashion statement paper robe - gap to the back if you will please...” waitaminnitt... i am here for a back review, and not that far back exam i say half jokingly, and she gives me that look

" yeah. that would be funny if it was the first time i heard it" look....

15 minutes of very cool air later on parts that don't need chilling, the doctor enters, charts in hand and begins to ask me to “walk this way, tip toes back, heels now, bend twist turn” – “ OW OW OW” – “oh, hurts to do that?” um yeah.

“can i take this off?” referring to the robe/gown/whatever, it is not really staying on my not so broad shoulders and slips continually down like a moomoo on me, but with the cooled air keeping my nipples erect to the point that the rings in them are keeping the gown from falling to the floor only, i am now less encumbered to just stand there in boxer briefs and complete my review/exam.

"gonna need xrays..." he mumbles, "sure, whatever it takes" i reply, and a flash later, a quick knock on an already opening door and this petite little PYT pops in "whooo hey whups! you are nearly nekkid!"

yep.

"...'kay - can you gown up and follow me?" sure.

down the hall again to an ice box of a room/morgue? and climb up on the morticians slab of cold stainless steel to attempt to lay flat for an xray...... now it gets fun!

the steel table is cold against my back, so i am arching upwards slightly to get away from contact... this puts my not so little "friend" at a much more prominent position than i would care to be in unless it is my girlfriend doing the next parts - i am continually patted and smoothed down on top of my gown to keep it flat and conformed to my steller physique... and she really seems to be intent on making sure a certain square foot of area is flat... but that just isn't gonna happen THERE anyway.... IT just doesn't have any where to go, understand? IT always sits out front of the porch so to speak.... and she seems too, again - really, REALLY be enjoying continuing trying to flatten me out some....... anyways..

35 mins of time elapse between 5 series of xray shots because I keep getting a "cloudy area" in one or two that just doesn't read (apparently a slight scoliosis), so; more adjusting, and more re-adjusting, which leads to more smoothing of course (go figure!) and finally i am done.

okay, i have been in "negotiations" for the last week about an impending ovulation cycle up coming and we have picked out names already, and all i am thinking is.... "i just went thru 35 minutes of highly concentrated gamma bombardments the likes that Flash Gordon would never imagined and highly concentrated at a SPECIFIC portion of an important part of said "negotiations" anatomy... do i actually have anything left now to give a name to?"

....i mean, when my dentist xrays my teeth, i get a lead blanket that immobolizes me in my chair till three interns come in and lift it back off me, and here i am in very form fitting 95 percent nylon/5 percent lycra skin tight boxer briefs and a damned PAPER shield of a gown!

"well HOnee? it's like this.... they all just kinda got vaporized last week at the doctors. you remember... that monday from hell i experienced?"

....oh yeah... that "horizontal" climber? turns out the car he escaped from was stolen, and he was a passenger/co-jacker/something bad - and the driver bailed at the moment of impact headed south for parts unknown and left him there to "climb" away on his own.... fitting i suppose.

whose insurance is gonna cover this one? I’m still waiting to find out what mine covers….

today decides what my future holds........

... today i have a doctors' appointment to decide what my "permanent disability" status and rating will be, and as such - shall dictate what my future holds as far as "working doug" becomes... and of course helps to define what my award shall be when it is given in january at last. so i am a bit off in my posting, expressing sorrow to all i slight by not being diligent enough in my posts and am tired

( read this as a GOOD tired though!)

from a weekend spent with a loved one where i gave a much needed shoulder (as well as a much missed one!) while she grappled with a very large emotional issue that effectively affected her,

and almost as if it had been planned by the "inflictee" to do just what it did... i was there to help assuage her fears and set her smiling again...

but that is a whole different story not to be related here, just suffice to say that i did what was needed of and by me and it worked wonderfully for both of us to have this time together again.

for this alone - i (and she) are/am very happy!

i am, of course though; worried a wee bit about this impending doctor review - but having more doctor's phone numbers now in my cell phone than i have friends and family combined,

it should be just another day in a waiting room, just another hour of time to get to my final destination at last.

worried because - this IS the one that will decide that future i want and desire/deserve to have back finally, and will help to knock down those additional stresses that sap my will at times

and make me wish to stay hidden away

and just let the world revolve beyond me.

but i have many, many friends out here and beyond in that same world

- that wait with the very same baited breath as i,

and i know that thier support is more than enough also to keep me keeping on... thanks to all and you have my unending and undying gratitude if i haven't already thanked you enough as of yet!

...so, i shall return later today to regale you with more, and for those who notice such things - i have finally and succesfully installed my "blogroll me!" link , and can only hope it is working at last........

...so i sat down to follow up the very confusing storyline posted previously below,

with pictures to support it,

and instead had a much more interesting week than planned...

as is probably always the way i suppose!

i survived the wedding weekend, no fighting among the siblings, saw old friends and created new ones, apparently missed my brother-in-laws "tour de force" performance of "thunderball" sung to the bride and groom (and the ballroom as well!) and had what i thought were decent enough images captured via my cheepo fuji digital, and backed up with my cell phone camera, which of course now look that much less memorable once downloaded and viewed...

back to the thunderball thing above.....

i haven't been to a lot of weddings lately, so i guess i missed the new trend announcement somewhere that detailed the new formats - ie: all sorts of "musical games" to be played? the "master of ceremonies" (another new idea i am guessing?) made the rounds of each table at various times during the reception to have guests relate good wishes to the couple - kinda standard for this i know, but as i went out for a cigarette break (numerous times) i missed the round where he asked one guest at each table to "sing a song for the newlyweds"... i assume this meant some little ditty or romantic stanza in the vein of the well wishing done earlier.

i come back into the hall to a rousing round of applause and see...

said brother-in-law on his knees taking a bow in front of everyone - apparently just having performed from what i hear afterwards - a very dead on version of "thunderball' in only the best tom jones stylings...

i mean - to hear tell of it - women were swooning and men glaring for the fact that the wives/girl friends/daughters were swooning...

i half expected to see panties flung to the center of the dance floor and a brawl break out, but glad they weren't.

really.

honest to gawd glad in that way!

so, after getting home and surviving the weekend at the holiday inn in long beach (where - apparently - the restuarant at top does not rotate ala the hyatt in san fransisco... and the one and only reason the fabled Minasian Guest Suites was booked here was that restaurant spinning after many drinks had been imbibed), and getting the pics all uploaded, then downloaded back to the computer - no amount of digital help is gonna save these from obscurity...

i have an infatuation for the truly mundane when it

comes to taking random pics...

i really like to document my feet and those around me when i am out places, and saw the great shadows i cast walking around outside

- so of course - jumped on a momentary desire to do the self portraits as such...

shadowy representations of myself in that particular place and time, recorded to hold forever... LOL!

so, i am left hoping that out of the one thousand and one additional cameras there - i will soon be on the recieving end of much better wedding shots to fill my email in the coming days....

on wednesday - i get a call to invite me to san pedro for a couple days

to re-unite with my beloved, so i jumped the first public transportation headed that direction (i am a huge fan of bus travel - it allows for interaction with the public missing in todays "rush here-get there now" world), and when i reached the transfer point in long beach

to get the commuter to san pedro, i was taking in all

the redevelopment going on downtown, and looking at

a fantastic renovated building turned into lofts,

and thinking - "wow, i get my settlement in january, i can live here now like i always dreamed about..." and - as stated before

- the proclivity to photograph my feet standing there in that spot

rose in my head...

so i pan down.....

and i am standing between

two pools of very fresh, very liquid,

very wet ..... blood.

yeah.

blood.

not like "oops, pardon me - do you have a tissue?

i seem to have a bloody nose..."

kind of blood,

no,

more like " son of a bitch i am the victim of a

walk by/drive by/metro train by shooting

or stabbing, hell - i don't know"...

kind of blood letting

that took place there apparently minutes prior to my transfer stop.

see?

that is why i like to get deep into that interaction,

had i been in a car on my way there

- never would i have seen or experienced it.

sorry, i know nothing else to relate here...

the denizens of said transfer facility and environs

aren't talking - and those that do will never ever make sense

to you or i anyway - much better to listen to thier

stream of conciousnous speech patterns

as words delivered from on high via

a urine soaked mouthpiece in last decades

ready to wear world in my shopping carts life and move on...

... so one week later from my i.m. with oregon (sister #2 acsending order),
and now one day away from the BIG day -
the wedding,the betrothal,
the joining,

the
family.

we are gathering, here and there,
from hither and yon, near and far... try to keep up - it's gonna get very confusing ahead!

... i was on the phone this evening with the groom to be (nephew #3 descending order), and his brother (nephew #2 - middle man), and could hear the very pregnant rae (brothers' wife - niece in law #2 with great nephew #4 in oven) in the background, and juggling overhearing a one sided phone conversation between my two sisters (#3 and #4 ascending) in my background, and getting a call waiting from yet a third nephew (nephew #1 acsending order) whose family (niece in law #1 and great nephew #2 and son to sister #4 above in one sided call) will not be making it this weekend, due to a newly purchased "first" home for them (ain't i proud!) and he wants information on champagne to christen the house, and the original nephew (#3 descending again)... is telling me how cool is all of THIS!... no butterflies or cold feet for this one anyway LOL!

okay, moving along then...

nephew one is telling me that he is there with nephew two and the missus, and they are at the hospital for an ultrasound........ i'm thinking the worst now ... due date is less than two weeks - flown down from Washington State - ultrasound = baby trouble (this one is my fourth great nephew), airplane ride was too much - all of that rushing thru my head while I still hear sisters(#3 and 4 respectively of 6 total - sister #2 being mom to nephews #2 and #3 above..and not due to arrive from Oregon for another hour at this point... still with me? good moving on...) here in background talking on land line about "the minasian hospitality suites" for saturday nite (this is a family tradition - brother in law #8 from sister #4{see phone call above or below - i'm lost now} ascending third marriage - we'll call him "fred"... always rents an extra smoking suite at the hotel and everyone brings cigars, noshables, and drinks to set it up proper...for afterwards of course)...
speaking of 'course' - back on it now...
so i'm thinking and listenening and wondering and worried about great nephew #4 when i get it - the ultrasound is the radically new "4D" version - unavailable up in washington state where they live unless they want to drive to seattle to get it done, so since rae's doctor gave approval to fly down, and nephew #2 - middle man - is telling me that Michael Jace (impending great nephew #4) keeps putting his hands in front of his eyes and a knee in his ear, so he is becoming distraught over the cost of this imaging session with a future son who already is bucking the folks desires ... and ain't even took a breath of stale air yet!

the nurse asks them to take a walk around, get some ice cream, and come back in twenty minutes to try again - at least she is feeling his anguish as a new daddy to be and wants to give them what they are paying for... a head shot!... all good in my book, and obviously - NOT managed health care at this clinic... hehehe. so at this time of posting, i don't know if the second trip thru the gel and magicke did it's tricks or not, can only assume that nephews #2 and #3 made it to lax to pickup thier mother and her wife (sister in law #1 for me as i have no brothers...just brothers in law come and gone from many marriages we can't even begin to graph here now with an excel spreadsheet twice as long as my current blog; so this is a milestone here!)

okay still with me so far? good. moving on...

so distraught nephew #2 - middle man - is telling me about babys hands in the way and i'm saying. "tony - whats the big deal? he will be here in less than two weeks anyway and we'll see pictures then in live 3D, so if the "4D" doesn't produce anything other than a cute "before birth" picture - it's still album material, right?"

dead air drags for what seems like two minutes, but is only maybe 10 or 15 seconds,

and i hear this incredulous voice on the other end of my cell say... " uncle doug, just how old ARE you... 'cuz it's way too early for alzhiemers in this family without a history of it so far.... Michael Jace is due in january, the third actually, and that is some time off still........."

um.

duh.

yeah, i think you told me that a couple months ago when we talked.... yep!

"what nephew is this again?" i am muttering now...

so long story try to be shorter...
i am looking forward to saturday, very enthusiastically too, because my s/o and the asher are going too, so i am happy - very happy - at this turn of event, and i know that up above - mom is watching me type and try to explain the brood of hers and all it's permeabilities, and knowingly i smile that she is esctatic at the outcome we will attend all saturday.

Multiple Family -Highway 98 - Merced CA - July 23rd, 2003

a few years back, i started documenting roadside memorials during my travels for a project i wanted to do... a small independently published book perhaps, or an e-book maybe; but the images are still just sitting in my files on my hard drives waiting to be called up again and put together.

i posted one about a month ago on MySpace blog, and thought with halloween approaching, and on the heels of that - "Dia de las Muertes" - i wanted to get back to this project again somehow - so i will randomly now post here from what i have gathered to date.

the subject matter results from the roadside memorials placed after an accident by loved ones and friends - you know what i mean here - a small cross, bunches of flowers, a candle or two, mementos of a life lost abruptly.

I have endeavored to gather as much background information as possible on each site - the names and dates of the accident, any thing else i can research out of local newspapers about the circumstances - but sometimes all i am left with is just a mile marker indicator of the road it took place on.

lately, i keep returning to the folder on my computer and looking at the images there every time i look for something else - the folder just sort of draws me back into it each time the directory tree comes up on the left side of the screen and probably because i placed it into my blogs files folder to try to use the information more.

reminding me of the good times i had on those trips, but sad each time when i realize what the subject matter really is.

am i questioning my own mortality then?
associating the good vacations and trips out with images of the roadside ends of lives instead of the 'vacation' pics we want to show everyone upon our return? (in reality - i don't show these images upon returning home when everyone wants to see the vacation pictures...)

i am not sure why or what it comes down to, but there is beauty in these images of death, there is comfort to those who build or maintain these memorials - to know that others may see them and grasp that the person or persons involved mattered ... and to see that their memories are kept alive long after they or the memorial is gone.

maybe it's more of a fascination with deathly things - again, i have a rather large collection of Dia de las Muertes artifacts; but i also owned a florist shop for years and dealt with death second hand at best but was directly involved in the planning and execution (bad choice of wordage) of the memorials to those who have passed on. when you are on a first name basis with most of the mortuary personnel in southern california and can navigate your way thru the back rooms of their places of employment, know the technical and nick names of tools and products used in the service of death that way- it's probably not a good thing to know ultimately what or how you yourself will go out.

opt for cremation if possible, and leave a marker someplace to show you were here, even if only temporarily.

i choose sometimes to image in sepia or B&W to heighten the effect, as it adds to them and i think does justice to the subjects in whatever small way i may be able to.

..so, there is a commercial on TV lately promoting eeyore as some childs sing along play along toy... "peek 'n play eeyore" i believe it is called.

now - i have always felt a kindred spirit in this droopy eared rumply stuffed jacka, er 'donkey' (he looks and feels most like my own persona at times is why); and always truly liked the fact that disney in all its' 'family wisdom' generated cash flow kept it at least true to a.a. milnes character in depictions of him - that being the depressed member of the hundred acre wood.
after all, not everyone is as happy go lucky as a certain round overstuffed bear with a honey pot always stuck on his head; much the same as our world has it's share of said bears, honey pots and depressed donkeys too. ...and don't we all write some of the best blogs out here behind these "personnae"?

so this commercial pops up and he is a smiling ear flapping to music or hand claps.... jackass there, now I said it...... yep.

am i the only one who see's this as an affront to my modern sensibilities? an outrage/sham of a character well loved and depicted even by a greedy corporate giant who stayed the course? ... every kid i know who owns or ever owned one KNOWS he ain't the happy camper in the 'wood... and as such, very VERY rarely smiled if at all, and then only as if it were an inside joke known only to the blue rag hisself!

along comes fisher price - who everyone knows has "little people" and "wee folks" sprouting out of every orifice on the body of every member of the boardroom (too many hits of ol' "Smiley Face" acid tabs in the 60's perhaps?) and creates an eeyore who smiles. and hugely at that.
just like all fisher price abominations - that same simpleton, vacuous insipid smile plastered on every plasticene face that peers back at you thru plastic fronted packaging up and down every shelf within eyesight of every toymonger out here - in and out of retail.... yeah, i'm on a soap box here and it ain't gonna get anywhere near "clean" by the time i am done...

i'm just bent at commercialism for a new world i suppose, if it was good enough to last a couple lifetimes so far - why change it? i am disgruntled to say the least, and outrageously pessimistic at what passes for "marketing" now-a-days... that we have to put a smile on something in order to have it accepted, and then perpetuate the false hoods for later in life when we learn the lesson that says:

"snap outta your daydream, sincerity is only sarcasm with a smile on it"

... hell, i could be wrong - but i like my jackasses to stay melancholoy as originally drawn... only then will we learn from it.

and then having learned it - we get to soar!

wow.

time flies, then slows to a crawl . . .

only to start again.

it is lightly raining here today,

after a week of temps that exceeded 100 degrees

on more than one afternoon.

i said i would return, hehehe...

and here i be!

i have had a relatively good week thus far -

i spent less than 20 mins at the DMV for renewal purposes

(sorry judy! i beat your experience i believe)

I went to lunch with my pal on tuesday,

and rekindled a small flame of closeness between us as such.

i had my first deposition in my WC case against the former employer

that resulted in what appears to be a win for me afterall!

i was looking at at least another three to four months of legal

wrangling over it,

but in just an hour and half i apparently eloquently expressed my pain and suffering so much so that the defense attorney ended with the statement:

"i see no need for subsequent deposition statements, and see no reason to schedule a judicial review in this matter. upon reciept of a pending dr. review summary - our next meeting should be for

COMPENSATORY

(this being the only word i think i heard!)

concerns and the results for re-training of mr. versteegh in a career

to be determined."

at the same time i was hearing those words,

my pal was getting great and fantastic news of her own:

she recieved the accolades so richly deserved to date, and has been awarded a promotion to a top position with her company, and as such -

i expect her career now to soar!

when i called her to see if lunch was still a possibility after my depo (missed it anyway) she listened while i related my news, then asked if it was her turn to share... and related her promotion story to me.

we have had a "bridge" link like this for almost three years now -

psychically linked as such - emailing each other with the same questions or answers at the exact same time, calling each other on the phone only to have the other already dialing it seems, and to both recieve the good news at nearly the same time that morning

just fell into our routine that way, very gratifying and solid yet again.

so, today i sit here catching up, waiting for someone to come by and purchase avocados fresh from the tree

and at way below market value i may add, and playing with online jigsaw puzzles - one of which i share with you below.

Hair today - gone today!

how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Bed Head?

so, lately i have been awaking with that ever so popular phenom known as, simply :

"bed head".

you know, when you hair decides to have it's own "fashion show sense of hilarity" obviously while you are soundly sleeping... because you never remember walking that catwalk, or sitting in the chair where the little "all the rage today" hair sty-leest of the absolute moment, tortures your hair into the positions that...

not even ANY amount of Aqua Net Super Industrial Liquid Lacquer as if sprayed from a fire hose or gel from hell itself can produce if you wanted to on your own anyway.... much less any amount of water and scrubbing when waking can reduce either before heading for morning coffee to prepare to go back and relieve your scalp of it's offense incurred last night.

now, for me - who is in all reality these days "hair deficient" - it comes really, as a shock to see it when i awake, stumble into the bathroom to relieve myself (maybe the bathroom trip is due to the champagne i don't remember drinking also all night during the fashion show described above?), and turn around to see an image reflected back from the mirror - that is at most - me? ; but is always enough to shock you then dead awake.

i mean, afterall, my hair is not much more than three measly quarters of an inch long at it's most, and that is only in the back and sides of my thickest thickets (hengh?) left from the migration from the top of said head to those sides and back now (is it gravity? is it lack of nutrients in my diet? is it just heredity afterall... i had hair down to nearly my ass crack when a younger man - thick, luxurious, full yet unruly also kept in de-riguer ponytail style so popular first in the seventies, then eighties then cut so very short when i got tired of it in my mouth gagging while i slept...)... so i cannot comprehend how it gets to its' current state of affairs the last few mornings....

out comes the Conair trimmer, Model # HC200 - second only to the legendary WAHL trimmer and it's offspring made forever famous by the "stubble cut" Don Johnson sported thru the career of pastel jackets with sleeves just so at the elbow, facial tonsorial splendours that was and always be -

Miami Vice at it's best hedonistic era...

and none of those confounded clip on attachments for me no sir!, just set that cutting/grabbing/sawing toothy metal shearing edge at "less than zero" and hit the head..... start at the sides, up then over the thinning field of play, then to the back and up and over,watch those ears now - looking like a taxi cab

going down the street with it's doors open (i dunno - something my dad used to say, ears sticking out and all that) - and all the while watching the little clumps of short hairs (no, not those "short hairs" - nothing electrically powered goes near there.. "cutting" anyways) ; which look so much darker once sheared than when still attached to my forlorn, now shorn; graying at the temples head.

but once done - i forever hear inside same said shorn head while looking intently in the mirror for those strays that always seem to escape those shearing metal teeth and stand alone proudly in defiance of the rest laid waste around them...the voice that makes me giddy to hear it:

"yep, you sure clean up nice now and then!"

ahhh, the sound of one who cared enough to tell me that i look good with, now very little or even sometimes no hair when the shaver gets a shot at my pate to leave it slick and shiny... bald as a newborns backside, and truthfully? ..... just as soft!

i much prefer it this way, no extra expense for shampoo or conditioners every day, and "bald" goes with any fashion sense really, and that is of course -

where i make my little turn on the catwalk...

Fifteen Years ago: October, 1990
I was 33 years old, had just bought my first “Family” business – a flower shop I was working at part time - and set about putting my Mom and two sisters to work there. No degree from school, no career choices really, no “love interest”, still doing three jobs at once, and thinking I was relatively happy anyway – surrounded by Family and Friends.

Ten Years Ago: October, 1995
Converted the “Family” business from Florist to coffeehouse and art gallery, right at the beginning of the coffee explosion taking off, after one of the sisters had embezzled us into the ground – every family has a black sheep, some just never show themselves till it’s over and done.
Took about 9 months to set up out of pocket expenses, but it was quickly embraced into the neighborhood as the “in” spot to be, and garnered some really nice acclaim which made it worthwhile to rise from the ashes of the former business.

Five Years Ago: October, 2000
Now moved on from the coffeehouse – due to an expansion failure with a very bad choice in business partner to expand with, and working for Americas Largest Home Improvement Chain/Do It Yourself Warehouses where I was on a fast track to Administrative Management Position – and I really loved that job and the people I worked with. Injured on the job 3x in 6 years…

One Year Ago: October, 2004
Been on Disability for three months from work for the injury that literally “broke the camel’s back” , after seeing a Neurosurgeon, a Ortho Specialist, a Pain Management Specialist from referrals from my GP – I found out that my back was not gonna support the work that a Doug has to do anymore, and living with the Woman I thought I would grow old with – for I was truly in LOVE note: I have more Doctors phone numbers in my cell than I do family and friends combined… and ZenChi Greeneyes the First had joined our family just a week before…

Yesterday: Friday
Had a fantastic “pre-deposition” meeting with my new (second) Lawyer, who tells me I may see my settlement right around Christmas (What a gift that could be!), but have no one to celebrate this good news with….. my LOVE and I seperated Aug 21st, and I moved back in with my sister to begin again… and on the phone to tell her just isn’t the same as if in person.
